Sustainable energy has become a buzz word in recent years with Global Warming becoming a major issue that’s threatening the very survival of humanity. The 2015 United Nations Climate Change Conference, COP 21 or CMP 11 was held in Paris, France, from 30 November to 12 December 2015. Here the Paris agreement was negotiated between 196 parties and was signed on the 22nd of April 2016 by 174 countries. It was agreed to limit global warming to below 2 degrees Celsius compared to pre-industrial levels. A massive effort is required by all countries to reach this target by investing in renewable energy sources and energy efficiency with a move away from burning of fossil fuels. It will require monumental effort from all stakeholders ranging from government, NGO’s, corporates to the man on the street. Clean Energy Conferences are a major platform for discussing our energy sustainability challenges and how we can move towards a cleaner and brighter future for all. Here we list the top 10 Clean Energy Conferences for 2018.

20th International Conference on Renewable & Sustainable Energy

The conference provides a platform for bringing leading researchers and scientists in the sustainability industry together. Presenting new advances and theories into sustainable energy solutions such as energy efficiency, green technology, solar energy, wind power, energy storage, eco-design, energy harvesting and the likes. The ICRSE also invites specialists in the field to submit unpublished research papers for discussion. The conference is scheduled for June 6th – 7th 2018.

ESI – Energy Storage International Conference

Up to recently the limitation of energy storage has been a major inhibitor for renewable energy technologies due to its intermittent behaviour. The real power and potential of renewable energy technologies will be unleashed with the advance in energy storage technologies. In 2015 the installed capacity of energy storage in the US was 221 MW, this figure is expected to rise to 1.7 GW by 2020. The ESI conference aims to bring together the energy storage and solar power markets, for them to reach their full potential in the marketplace. The conference is scheduled for September 24th – 27h 2018 at the Anaheim Convention Center, Anaheim, California.

MIT Energy Conference

With more changes occurring in the global energy space in the past 10 years than the earlier 100 years, sustainable energy is an exciting space to be in. The MIT Energy Conference is a student-led conference. It brings together leaders from government, industry, the scientific community and private sector experts. All in the same of energy sustainability, looking at it holistically and debating the future of energy as we know it. Conference is scheduled for March 2nd & 3rd 2018, Boston Marriott Cambridge.

Innovative SMART Grid Technologies 2018 Conference (IEEE ISGT 2018)

With the advent of Data Analytics and IoT, SMART technology is the latest buzz word in sustainable energy. The electrical grid hasn’t changed much since the advent of electricity in the late 1800’s, it’s old, antiquated and outdated. The SMART grid will revolutionize the electrical distribution industry by incorporating digital technology that will allow two-way communication between the utility and its customer’s. The IEEE ISGT Conference will feature discussions, technical papers and tutorials by industry experts representing the electric utilities, regulators, technology providers, academia, the national laboratories, and both federal and state governments. The conference is scheduled for February 19th – 22nd 2018, Washington DC.

SMART Energy Summit

Sticking with the theme SMART technology, this conference dives deeper into SMART technology. Looking at SMART technology in the home environment. Such as home automated controls and how it impacts utilities, service providers, retailers and the homeowner. The summit will include executives from utilities, telecoms, security companies, retailers and OEM’s. The conference will evaluate new partnerships, strategies for consumer engagement and deployment plans for energy management in the connected home environment. The conference is scheduled for 19th – 21st February 2018, Fairmont Austin, Austin.

2018 ACEEE Summer Study on Energy Efficiency in Buildings

Energy Efficiency is often referred to as the “First Fuel” and is probably the most cost-effective way and shortest path to achieving the COP21 Global Warming targets. Often the ugly ducking and least sexy of the group of sustainable energy solutions there still exists a lot of opportunity in this space.  The ACEEE conference on energy efficiency in buildings explores how technologies can boost energy efficiency. Data-driven science and advances in material sciences are creating new types of intelligent sensors and controls creating dynamic, grid-integrated buildings. All in the name of developing net-zero buildings. There exists a lot of opportunity in the built environment to adopt energy efficient technology and behaviour change, considering the impact buildings have on energy consumption. The conference takes place on August 12th – 17th 2018 Pacific Grove, California.

2018 ACEEE Energy Efficiency Finance Forum

Energy-related costs form a major part of many companies’ operational costs and with many US states supporting energy efficiency through different policies, there’s a good reason to become more energy efficient. Energy efficient retrofits come at a cost, unfortunately, but ideal projects can yield great payback periods. Hence financing of energy efficiency projects has become a multi-billion-dollar business in the US. The 2018 ACEEE Energy Efficiency Finance Forum brings together energy efficiency investors, financiers, utility staff; local, state, and federal agency personnel; energy service company personnel; policymakers; NGOs; energy efficiency program planners, operators, and evaluators; and marketing experts. The event is to assist attendee’s in getting started on financing of their energy efficiency projects so they can reduce their energy costs.

Greenbuild International Conference & Expo

Statistics in the US state that residential and commercial buildings consume 70% of total electricity demand and contribute 39% towards total annual carbon emissions in the US. The concept of green buildings focuses on environmentally friendly building practices and reduces overall building energy consumption. Mainly through unique design principals and implementation of energy-efficient technologies. The Greenbuild International Conference & Expo brings together green building experts from around the world to discuss the way forward in the green building environment and further promote the green building concept. It’s the largest green building conference in the world and is scheduled for the 14th – 16th November 2018, Chicago, Illinois.

Intersolar North America 2018

By the end of 2016, the US had 60 GW of installed Photovoltaic capacity, having almost doubled in capacity from the previous year. Also in 2016 Solar Power accounted for 39% of all new capacity additions across all fuel types. In the past decade, solar power has become more competitive over traditional fuel types and becoming mature as a technology, not to mention government support for solar power in the form of financial incentives. Solar Power is here to stay and the Intersolar conference is the most attended solar conference and exhibition in the US. The exhibition and conference focused on photovoltaics, PV production technologies, smart renewable energy and solar thermal technologies. It brings together suppliers, manufacturers, distributors, service providers and partners of the solar industry.

US Offshore Wind 2018

Wind Power accounted for 4% of generation capacity in the US in 2013 and has delivered 30% of all new generating capacity in the last 5 years. Growing in popularity is offshore wind farms, historically more expensive than conventional land-based wind power farms. However, the cost of offshore wind farms has become more competitive over the last few years. One major advantage of offshore wind farms is the wind is generally more consistent and wind speeds higher than on land. Growth in development of offshore wind farms is expected to grow in the coming years.  The US Offshore Wind conference brings together offshore wind farm project developers and other industry experts to discuss wind power government policies, project best practices and lessons learnt and project funding structures. The conference is scheduled for June 7th – 8th 2018, Boston Park Plaza.
