Paramount Home Media Distribution (PHMD) has launched a free AR experience for iOS app in conjunction with the release of Transformers: The Last Knight on 4K Ultra HD.
The app, which is created by Viacom’s VR team Viacom NEXT using Apple ARKit technology, incorporates content from the latest film in the Blockbuster series, Transformers: The Last Knight.
Players will have the opportunity to get in the driver’s seat and take BUMBLEBEE for a ride, controlling its actions while engaging with objects, which can be added to expand the interactive environment.
The app overlays 3D graphics of the virtual junkyard of protagonist Cade Yeager as seen in Transformers: The Last Knight, onto a user’s surrounding physical space.
The AR experience is free to download from the App Store until February 20, 2018, but users have the options of purchasing Transformers: The Last Knight (4K HDR) through the app as well as the 5-movie Collection (4K HDR) exclusively on iTunes beginning November 21, 2017.
(PHMD) is a component of Paramount Pictures Corporation (PPC), a major global player in feature film production and distribution, video and DVD worldwide distribution, and production of programs for television broadcast and syndication.
Just last week the studio, in partnership with Bigscreen, collaborated with several tech companies — Oculus, Samsung, HTC and Microsoft, among others, to launch a first virtual reality movie theater with Top Gun 3D being their initial VR movie open for viewing on December 3.
