Space Odyssey Information
The Space Odyssey game is intended to be a unique experience brought about by a vision by Tyson and his team of major scientists and educators. While playing the game, players will shape the way that the universe appears and can be used. Players will be able to explore and colonize planets in real time. The team is also working on a proprietary physics engine which will power the game.
The team at Space Odyssey includes creators of comic books, conceptual illustrators, Neil deGrasse Tyson, and his StarTalk All-Stars.
Neil is an astrophysicist and leading visionary on the game. He advises on all scientific aspects. Expertise of Tyson and his team of biologists, cosmologists, astrophysicists, and astronomers will manifest into aspects of the game world.
The head of story is Len Wein, who is responsible for creating the game’s storyline. Len is a comic book writer who is best known for Marvel Comics’ Wolverine and DC Comics’ Swamp Thing.
Cecil Kim, Justin Yun, and Section Studios are providing conceptual design and will be working on everything from 3D animation to UI design, 3D modeling, visual development, and concept art.
The development team, Big Red Button, is based in Los Angeles and has many gaming veterans from huge studios like High Impact Games, Luxoflux, Heavy Iron, Insomniac, and Naughty Dog. The team specializes in third-person narrative action game development for AR, VR, console, mobile, PC. The team has experience in Unreal3 Unity, Unreal4, and CryEngine3 game engines. They also have expertise in character action genres, selling over 50 million units.
This game is unique in that games and fans can help shape the game through development by asking questions, suggesting ideas, and participating in beta testing. Players will interact with beta worlds and offer feedback that allows the team to build an experience that players will enjoy.
Space Odyssey started the conceptualization process through self-funding and then sought outside funding for development. The funds from Kickstarter allow the development team the chance to provide chances for the community to play the game and engage with it up until the final build is complete and the game hits shelves.
