EP.37 Not All Decentralized Systems are Blockchains - Mance Harmon

There's a lot of hype surrounding cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology, but when you break it down what everyone's really excited about is decentralized systems and distributed ledgers. If you listened to my interview with Futurist Daniel Jeffries, then you know blockchain is just the first iteration of distributed ledger technology (DLT). While this tech is revolutionary, it's also a pretty expected evolution of existing digital systems. A decentralized network of nodes verifying data is a well-designed response to some of the security issues we so frequently encounter in nascent digital businesses..

Mance Harmon is the CEO and Co-Founder of Hedera Hashgraph, a DLT platform that differs from traditional blockchains in a few key ways. It's important to note that the term blockchain loosely describes a whole host of DLTs, and what we're really talking about is decentralized and distributed systems and the protocols designed to govern them. In this interview, Mance and I talk about the future of DLT, and decentralized systems and why there's more to the conversation than the blockchains we all know and love. If you've wondered about how blockchain technology will evolve over time, definitely give this one a listen!

What you will learn in this episode:

  • Why decentralized solutions are so well suited for today’s market needs.
  • How you can leverage a decentralized network in enterprise settings.
  • What the future holds for Distributed Ledger Technologies.
