Our new Disruption by Blockchain series aims to highlight companies that are leveraging the incredible potential of blockchain technology to disrupt and revolutionize their industry. Through one on one interviews, we'll speak directly with industry leaders to cut beyond the hype and get directly to the heart of practical use cases and examples of how it will change the world, one industry at a time.
The following is an interview we recently had with Blaise Mathai, Communications Director at Experty.io.
1. What’s the history of Experty? How and where did you begin?
BM: The initial idea for Experty began in Poland with the web consulting company React Poland. With many years of experience in the consulting and blockchain space, the team decided that it was time to do something bigger. Once a business plan was laid out, the team moved from React Poland to Experty. Since then, the Experty team has been increasing in size to scale with the growth of the Experty community.
2. Who are the founders and key team members?

Anatolii Melnyk, Full Stack Developer
Anatolii was also a developer with React Poland. He is an experienced and dedicated developer.
3. What problem are you solving? Who are you solving it for?
BM: Experty is solving the problem of payment friction and uncertainty during consultations. Traditionally, a consultant either gets paid in advance or after a consultation, and trust is a major issue either way. Even with a third-party intermediary to handle payments, consultations can be costly and inefficient.
4. What is your solution to this problem?
BM: We are building a tool that is similar to Skype but implements automated payments using a smart contract. A consultant can set their rate, and once a call begins, clients are charged for the exact time spent on the call. Both the consultant and the client benefit from the security of the automated payment system.
5. Why is your industry ripe for disruption?
BM: The consultations market is huge, and with the Experty’s ability to let anyone easily conduct voice and video consultations, it will surely continue to expand. Currently, the global consulting industry is worth approximately $125 billion. Experty will help the digital portion of this industry grow (currently $23 billion) by providing a tool that solves the issues that face online consultants and their clients. In addition, Experty intends to begin by focusing on the blockchain community, providing a practical application that will help the blockchain industry grow as well.
6. What’s the future of your industry?
Prediction #1: Both the blockchain and consulting industry will continue to grow.
Prediction #2: People will be moving away from traditional employment to independently share their skills for money (consulting and contracting).
Prediction #3: There will be an increased need for automation and trust between client and consultant due to online consulting. Experty bridges this gap and brings people together online.
