In this interview, we speak with Meade H. Lewis, Founder & CEO of mIQroTech, to understand how his company is using AI to transform energy, and what the future of the energy industry holds.
1. What’s the story behind mIQro Tech? Why and how did you begin?
ML: I founded this company as the former Chief Information Technology Officer of multiple oil and gas firms, I know exactly what this industry needs to not only succeed but become a cleaner, greener, industry as a whole. I am an avid environmentalist, but also a capitalist. I know that for this industry to get better, there needs to be huge innovation making these incredible technologies incredibly affordable for the pipeline operator. What we have done is merge IoT and AI to predict oil and gas pipeline leaks before they happen, saving the operator millions, protecting the environment, and securing the industry for years to come.
2. Please describe your use case and how mIQro Tech uses artificial intelligence:
ML: We monitor a variety of variables up to 42 times every second. We then use wireless systems to transmit the data to a cloud-computing cluster where it is then analyzed time and time again by neural network-backed Artificial Intelligence (AI). Should an immediate threat occur, such as an unauthorized excavator digging, we can alert the pipeline operator immediately so that they can respond. As for long-term threats, such as corrosion or land slippage, we can predict these weeks, months, even years ahead of time with a projected 96% accuracy.
3. Could you share a specific customer/user that benefits from what you offer? What has your service done for them?
ML: Our solution has obvious cost and risk mitigation for our customers. For one of our customers, we were able to see an excavator digging, alert them, and they were not only able to stop a leak (and save millions of dollars) but potentially save the excavator operator’s life. We aim to continue these amazing results and further our mission of protecting the environment.
