In this interview, we speak with Hildo Rocha, Managing Director of Shelfpix, to understand how his company is using AI to transform food retail, and what the future of food retail holds.
1. What’s the story behind Shelfpix? Why and how did you begin?
HR: Shelfpix is a retail tech startup and our mission is to be one of the engines that will take the current retail marketplace into the future. Our leadership has more than 250 years of combined business experience in retail and tech. From this experience came the perception that big business must be born through the application of technologies, methodologies and new ideas to solve with great efficiency some of the major pain points of important industries for the global market, including the retail consumer goods industry.
By combining in-depth knowledge about the problems of this market with broader connections to academia and experience in emerging and cutting-edge technologies, we have created a proprietary, AI-driven platform that is capable of accurately detecting and classifying all elements present in retail, allowing the domination of the main KPIs for perfect store and management of categories with high performance.
2. Please describe your use case and how Shelfpix uses artificial intelligence.
HR: Obtaining information manually is expensive, inefficient, and poor information can cause significant losses in quality. Using simple image capture methods like a smartphone camera, users can capture images of the shelves, advertising materials, etc. The Shelfpix AI evaluates, detects and classifies each element present in the images and generates all the most important KPIs to the user. Through computer vision, computational mathematics, and mobile technologies, the Shelfpix AI generates all the necessary indicators to reduce costs and increase direct revenue by executing the right POS.
3. Could you share a specific customer/user that benefits from what you offer? What has Shelfpix done for them?
HR: We are working on large projects and smaller strategic validation projects. This includes the application of the Shelfpix Platform to assist in the management of inventory in more than 11 Brazilian states for Coca-Cola. They account for more than 40,000 visits with the processing of more than 500,000 photos every month. This represents more than 25 million monthly product recognitions made by Shelfpix.
