In this interview, we speak with Oleg Vorontsov, CEO of MedLab Media Group (MMG), to understand how his company is using AI to transform healthcare, and what the future of the industry holds.
1. What’s the story behind MedLab Media Group? Why and how did you begin?
OV: MMG was founded three years ago after it was decided to set up a team of first-line artificial intelligence experts focused on the health sector. Currently, MMG researches the latest technology to develop global, accessible and transversal artificial intelligence solutions that enhance the creation and exchange of knowledge.
Multiple disruptive tools have already emerged from our innovation lab, such as a healthcare communication platform and a semantic search engine, DeepAIMed, powered by artificial intelligence, as well as some innovative technologies that have applications in enterprises in different sectors. Our work is aimed at becoming a world technology enterprise leader in artificial intelligence semantic solutions.
2. Please describe your use case and how MedLab Media Group uses artificial intelligence:
OV: Most of the knowledge in any company is in documents. However, companies exploit, roughly, only one percent of those documents. MMG's aim is to help companies extract and use all knowledge from their text-based sources.
MMG developed a cutting-edge, semantic AI technology for text understanding that incorporates the principles of linguistics. This technology is based on the research MMG did in the last three years on Natural Language Understanding and Knowledge Representation. MMG is creating a platform to open this technology to every company in the world. This platform will give access to many enterprise solutions such as semantic search engines, linguistic fingerprints, and smart document management.
3. Could you share a specific customer/user that benefits from what you offer? What has MMG done for them?
OV: MMG is working with several large international reinsurance companies for complex claims management. Claims management is one of the most important challenges in the reinsurance sector — it requires intensive human labor, is time-consuming, and implies high costs with non-efficient processes.
MMG Semantic AI technology can face this challenge by providing automatic ways for true knowledge management. It finds key relevant information and patterns when dealing with claims, leaving human efforts to business decisions instead of repetitive and intensive costly tasks. With a user-friendly, intuitive platform, the user can search a large set of documents. The technology is able to find similar cases and documents, such as past claims, laws or contracts, and return answers to user queries through summaries of cases and documents. Thanks to our Semantic AI technology, we boost document management for faster, more efficient case resolution.
