In this interview, we speak with Vincent Sciandra, CEO of METRON, to understand how his company is using AI to transform energy, and what the future of the energy industry holds.

1.  What’s the story behind METRON? Why and how did you begin?

VS: When I founded METRON in 2013, I envisioned creating a digital solution to help industrial energy providers better manage their energy consumption in the most sustainable and efficient way.

METRON opens the way for this new paradigm by helping industrial clients leverage untapped industrial data and connect to decentralized energy resources.  54 percent of the world's energy is consumed by industries. For METRON, energy optimization of the world's industrial plants is the real opportunity to address sustainable challenges.

Our disruptive AI approach is the combination of Machine Learning and knowledge bases. Our AI-driven platform gets insights into the factory's operations and transforms them into real savings by suggesting an actionable energy management strategy. We unlock new energy-saving opportunities by optimizing all the industrial untapped data. Today, METRON includes 80+ experts & over 100 clients worldwide can already confirm the reliability of our solution!

2. Please describe your use case and how METRON uses artificial intelligence:

VS: METRON-EVA® Factory, our Energy Virtual Assistant, is a platform solution that allows us to monitor and analyze your data in real-time, detect non-intuitive variables affecting energy consumption, and reduce your energy use and environmental impact accordingly.

Using the relevant data collected in industrial sites, mixed with our expertise and the industrial context, our Artificial Intelligence analyzes variables affecting the energy consumption. The virtual assistant can then create optimal models and suggestions for the factory staff to implement and improve its energy efficiency.

The AI creates dashboards for factory and energy managers, process managers, and machine operators to offer real-time performance monitoring and optimization suggestions.  It is constantly fed and supervised by our energy and data engineers, and all the strategies are developed in collaboration with the client’s preferences and inputs.

3. Could you share a specific customer/user that benefits from what you offer? What has METRON done for them?

VS: Within 6-12 weeks, METRON-EVA® Factory is installed and connected, and the factory’s staff is trained to use it.  In the first 12 months, our customers observe a payback on the solution through savings and 100 percent of customers have renewed their yearly subscription.

For example, thanks to METRON-EVA® Factory, Danone has reportedly cut its steam and electricity consumption by 10 percent, generating over EUR 150,000 in savings per year. The reliability of our solution, the constant follow-up and support from our operations team, combined with quick returns on investment, contribute to making METRON-EVA® Factory an ideal tool for an efficient future-proof energy and digital transition.
